Please remember:

  • The Homeless Count is a RAIN OR SHINE project.

  • Please arrive on time at your volunteer location.

  • Wear appropriate clothing – you will be provided a volunteer t-shirt that needs to be worn as your outer most item of clothing.  If you volunteered a previous homeless count and received the red THHI Volunteer t-shirt, you may choose to wear it.

  • Wear comfortable close-toed, flat shoes – recommend hiking boots or sneakers.

  • Consider using bug repellent if you are helping with the traditional street count as you may be conducting the count survey in wooded areas.

  • Bring a pen.

  • Do not wear large or expensive jewelry.

  • Leave personal items at home or well-hidden in your vehicle.

  • Volunteers under the age of 18 must be in high school and must accompany their parent/legal guardian during of the volunteering.

  • Volunteers need to be able to help for the entire shift they will be working.

  • Do not bring additional items to hand out to the homeless persons you may encounter. The incentive items will be provided to ensure equal incentives for everyone who completes the count survey.

For those conducting the street count, whenever possible we will be trying to form teams of 3-4 to maximize the number of volunteer teams counting on the street to cover as much of Tampa-Hillsborough County as possible. Therefore, please remember that if you are volunteering with friends, co-workers, etc., you may be asked to split up when the counting teams are determined at the start of your shift. We appreciate your understanding and flexibility to help ensure the count reaches as many homeless people and locations as possible.

If you this information is incorrect or you are unable fulfill your volunteer assignment, please contact Andrea Ramirez at Ramirezao@thhi.org or send an email to info@thhi.org.
